He worked as a landscape gardener and a night shift worker in a car factory before applying for a BA in fine art at Belfast Art College from 1995-1999. He worked in Italy teaching and painting until 2001. Terry's work is predominantly landscape, figurative and still life. Classical themes in a contemporary world. He prefers working in oils and uses a wide a variety of drawing materials.
"Creating something of meaning and beauty is always the goal of a painting for me. How I get there, if I get there , is different every time. The process can involve a million different thoughts and decisions whilst painting. I try and assemble colour and form to create a mood and energy. This energy is something that can hopefully comfort, bring consolation or joy, or transport the viewer to a place of inner peace. Despite the disappointment and discouragement that comes with painting, the pursuit of beauty is not something you give up easily.”
