Stephen Campbell

Stephen Campbell is one of the new wave of exciting new artists currently working in Manchester. Born in 1985, Stephen grew up in of Salford with his family of scientists and medics. He is self-taught and had his first public commission at 17. In 2007 he was awarded a BA (Hons) in Interactive Arts by Manchester Metropolitan University.
He spent time studying and painting in Barcelona and around Poland, working with various artist groups, before returning to Britain, working with other artists and painting on the street.
He makes his own paints from high quality pigments, oils resins and waxes and keeps the materials as environmentally friendly as possible, he never paints from photographs.
He prefers to paint and draw life as he sees it, usually painting en plein aire and then returning to the studio to build up layers of various different glazes using a combination of materials. He often uses distorted perspectives to give the paintings a fresh, new feel. He is always experimenting with new techniques.
