Portraiture artist Arthit Pansuay is an emerging Thai artist who is gaining critical acclaim on the international contemporary art scene with exhibitions in Moscow and New York. His large-scale oil paintings depict women in striking poses with their hair taking on the form of fire or clouds and the paint appearing to melt down the canvas.
Born in 1983, the artist studied at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology, Ladkrabang working initially in a photo-realist style. He has since transformed his work into a daring, expressive series of large paintings exploring the theme of contemporary women. His influencers encompass a range of artists from Gustav Klimt to contemporary British artist Jenny Saville.
Arthit creates a unique vision capturing an intense, clarity of his sitters’ features whilst gradually applying loose, expressive brushstrokes picking out areas of pattern and contrasting blocks of colour.
