Chaiyapong Hongtong

An artist who has emerged on to the international art scene and is continuing to grow in popularity in many countries, Chaiyapong was born in southern Thailand in 1979. Studying at the College of Fine Arts in Bangkok, he then went on to complete a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology in Ladkrabang, Bangkok.

Chaiyapong creates intriguing portraiture work which incorporates a unique process of a highly controlled drizzling of paint in the form of contour lines to represent the facial structure and shadows of each female he paints. The bright, bold colours applied to the lips and eyes are a dynamic contrast to the overall black and white palette.

Creating contemporary paintings that appeal to many different cultures across the globe, the eastern influence is fundamental in the floral patterns and motifs he incorporates into those portraits.
