Frank Getty is an internationally renowned German artist born in 1967 in the region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Showing talent for painting as he was growing up, his father however urged him to follow a ‘normal’ profession and so he became a painter and decorator. Despite this, he built a highly regarded reputation doing large-scale murals and commissioned paintings, but it wasn’t until he spent time in New York and London that he chose to become a professional full-time artist.
With a bold and confident impasto oil technique, Frank Getty is described as a powerful force among palette-knife artists. He has built a reputation for his expressive depictions of well-known locations including Venice and New York as well as commissions of prominent figures in society.
Frank Getty’s impressive style has been commissioned by important entities such as the British Embassy, who requested a portrait of Winston Churchill. Other notable commissions include footballer Franz Beckenbauer, actress Katja Riemann and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk for the Turkish embassy to celebrate the 98th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic.
Frank Getty’s technique which captures the fluidity of each scene lends itself equally well to his sailing and coastal scenes which are a firm favourite amongst collectors. The paintings are striking with their sense of movement from a distance but as you get closer you discover the compelling rawness of the layering of the strokes of paint; arguably the most tangible paintings we have at the gallery.
