Gary McNamara

Gary McNamara became a freelance Illustrator in his twenties and after working initially in advertising he then began to create work for some of the biggest global publishing houses. Illustrating for children’s books including Disney and Thomas the Tank Engine, he became an illustrator for DreamWorks where he worked on many animated productions including Shrek, Madagascar and Captain Underpants.

For many illustrators, the constraints of working to tight briefs often leads to a desire to work more experimentally and creatively when producing their own art. Consequently, Gary explores a variety of subject matter as well as an array of techniques and processes.

From different influences that engage him such as the industrial north’s city streets in the era of Lowry to eastern inspired striking portraiture, Gary is adept at creating contemporary art that appeals to the subjective tastes of many.
