Simon Wright

Simon was born in West Yorkshire in 1974 and since a child it has been his passion and dream in life to make a living from drawing and painting. After gaining a degree in illustration and subsequently working as an illustrator for several years Simon began to realize that he enjoyed fine art painting far more as it didn’t have the restraints of illustration work. He made the decision to pursue his own art practice and achieved success painting animals, particularly dogs.

Eager to develop his own style, Simon took inspiration from the vibrancy of the city and its landmarks. Bringing elements of illustration and fine art together, Simon creates expressive, spontaneous paintings working in both oil and acrylic paint. Applying layers of various mark-making techniques with thick paint, Simon's paintings are highly textural and tactile with contrasting areas of softer washes. There are influences of both Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism but with a clear fresh, contemporary approach.
