Veronika Benoni

Veronika Benoni is one of the most popular well-established artist's in her native Czech Republic and is co-founder of The Benoni School of Painting. Veronika studied at the College of Arts in Leningrad followed by classes in the USSR Academy of Arts.

She and her partner Ulian Benoni lived in the former Soviet Union and were initially artistic jewellery silversmiths, their pieces being sold in jewellery boutiques across Moscow and Leningrad. Due to the political instability of the country however they made the decision to move back to Veronika's native Prague where Veronika began painting pictures strongly influenced by old Prague with its fascinating streets and architecture.

Her paintings of cityscapes often focus on a combination of areas of decorative architectural detail and blocks of varying textures representing the surfaces of the city's buildings. There is often gold or silver leaf applied to her paintings, a feature that points to her past as a jewellery maker. Veronika for some of her paintings will explore perspective and take the elliptical approach to the picture plane, giving some of her paintings a much more abstracted quality.
