We were contacted by a previous client for whom we had provided artwork to furnish a local Cheshire restaurant. The client was collaborating with a hospitality company who were looking for something more bespoke and themed for their restaurant refurbishment in Covent Garden, London.
The project brief was to create bespoke artwork for specific spaces across all three floors of the restaurant and to reflect a coherent style throughout based around a fictional character 'St Martin'; the character was not yet fully established, but the client suggested a well-travelled individual from a past era. After a site visit, lead designer and artist James Blinkhorn developed a theatrical, vintage 1920's era idea which he felt would work effectively with the late 19th/early 20th century features in the building such as the original tiling and mirrors. With consideration to the restaurant being situated in the area of London where theatre goers would frequent, it seemed natural to create characters with narrative in the artworks such as people dancing etc.
Additionally, James incorporated botanicals into the theme requested by the client in view of the famous Covent Garden flower market nearby. This simultaneously allowed for more colour to be injected into the interior which worked particularly well as a contrast against the predominant black and white elements of the interior.
