This incredible painting was commissioned by Jon Crossley, Managing Director at Bentley Rolls-Royce & McLaren Manchester to feature in their new car showroom in Wilmslow.
The brief was to create a painting that incorporated a portrait of Bruce McLaren along with important historical references to his life and achievements as the founder of McLaren Racing. James consequently created an inspired composition, adopting a movie-poster style painting in order to encompass the many different aspects of Bruce McLaren as a racing driver, designer and engineer.
The original painting was unveiled at the official launch party and hangs proudly in the showroom. A limited edition print was gifted to Bruce McLaren’s daughter Amanda at the event and she was bowled over by it. 'It is the most amazing piece of artwork with so much detail. Absolutely brilliant!'
James had also created a poignant black and white painting of Bruce McLaren as a young child.
