A traditional portrait was commissioned by a client. James was given a wonderfully, endearing reference photograph of their daughter eating cake.
Taking the approach of traditional Victorian painting, particularly inspired by John Singer Sargent's focus on the interplay of light upon the skin, James added a natural background to the composition and created a beautiful oil painted portrait. The client was overwhelmed.
